Cedar & Salt’s Saunas
Our portable wood fire & electric saunas are designed custom-made and can be taken anywhere along the Beaches and Sydneys coastline. With space for up to 12 people, enjoy panoramic views of the ocean, harbour, lakes or rivers as you restore your mind and body in the traditional Finnish löyly heat, post-surf or swim. The handcrafted sauna features backlit solar interior lighting and beautiful timber details including an external rain screen crafted from Japanese cedar battens and inside cladding from New Zealand redwood & European thermally modified Alder. 
Sauna Sessions
Outdoor sauna sessions run for 60 minutes, in communal groups of up to 12 — the perfect amount of time to fully relax and feel the benefits of the heat.
Sessions can be booked privately or hired out for events. Imagine twilight sunset and sunrise sauna sessions on the beachfront, watching the surf roll in.
Cedar & Salt is currently activating at Manly's waterfront for Winter at Manly Lifestyle Club, Manly Wharf, with our harbourside Barangaroo sessions launching July 31 on Sydney Harbour. Head to our Locations page to see current sessions and book your spot.
We recommend starting each session with a cold ocean dip, followed by 15 minutes in the heat of the sauna. Take a rest, then have another swim in the sea. Follow this with another 15 minutes in the sauna before finishing with a final cold dip — then let your body warm up naturally.
Cedar & Salt’s Story
The founder of Cedar & Salt , Rob, is a Freshwater local who was inspired by Nordic sauna culture while road-tripping around Scandinavia and the Arctic Circle.
Noticing a lack of authentic outdoor sauna experiences back home, Rob set out to bring the ritual to Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Cedar & Salt went on to pioneer the mobile seaside sauna movement in NSW, creating spaces where people could reconnect with nature, embrace the elements and experience the simple ritual of hot sauna and cold water.
Rob is also a founding member of the Australian Sauna Association, helping support the growth of safe, authentic sauna culture across Australia.
The idea is to keep sauna wild fully portable, setting up by the surf on the harbour and in the snow.
Our name is inspired by the natural materials of the sauna and the saltwater locations that make each Cedar & Salt experience unique.
Experience Aufguss
Aufguss is a European sauna ritual that transforms heat, steam, scent and movement into a multisensory experience. Water infused with essential oils is poured over the hot stones to create löyly—the wave of steam and heat—before it is circulated through the sauna using rhythmic towel movements and fans. Every Cedar & Salt session incorporates elements of this ritual. Our facilitators use rain ladles, fans and essential oils to move the löyly throughout the sauna, creating waves of aromatic heat and elevating the traditional sauna experience.
Cedar & Salt founder Rob has trained with Aufguss.it Aufgussmeisters, who are also judges at the Aufguss World Championships.
Keep an eye out for our special one-hour guided Aufguss sessions. Rob will guide you through a choreographed 12–15-minute ritual featuring ice bowls, carefully selected essential oils, music and traditional towel movements bringing the energy and theatre of European Aufguss to Sydney .
